| Grapefruit
diet
is a fad diet which regained its popularity in the 1970s. Some
people erroneousley attribute it to Mayo clinic. This diet used
to be credited very negatively, because people considered it
to be unbalanced and possibly quite dangerous.
In a 2004 study led by Dr. Ken Fujioka at the Nutrition and
Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic, they found out
that, in a 12-week pilot study, participants who ate half the
grapefruit with each daily meal lost 3.6 pounds. Those who were
drinking a serving of grapefruit ( 3 times a day) lost 3.3 pounds.
Many more patients during this study lost more than 10 pounds
which is a great result.
It was found that this graoefruit diet reduces insulin levels
and by this, affects the blood sugar regulation. Grapefruit
is by some experts considered to be low glycemic, and pancreas
secrets insulin in the response to the amount of carbohydrate
which is ingested- it is also affected by glycemic load of a
food.
Some
theories say that the grapefruit's low glycemic index can help
the body (the metabolism of the body) to burn fat.
